FLORA—A man who lost his license to practice dentistry due to uncontrolled drug use was found dead in his trailer yesterday morning, 11.02.11.
Police have told Disclosure that Richie Morray, 54, was found by a friend at his trailer located at 970 West 7th Street in Flora at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Despite a host of rumors flying around Clay County, many of which had Morray stabbed, beaten and/or his throat slit, none of that, said Flora Police Chief John Nichols, was the case. “There was no trauma to the body,” Nichols confirmed.
Morray became famous for his drug exploits after he was caught filching prescription items from the dental practice he shared in Flora with a relative, Harold Martin II. Only recently (August) had Martin taken out an Order of Protection against Morray because he was coming around begging money off the older man, who is in ill health and couldn’t take the harassment. The first known drug case against Morray came about in 2004 and it was all downhill from there, with the man being busted for dope (injectable stuff, like morphine derivatives, needles and syringes) in not only Clay but Richland, too. Most of those cases dragged through the court system until they ended in dismissal or pleas, but he is a felon, and did lose his license to practice dentistry several years back because of it.
Authorities are still investigating the matter, with an autopsy to be conducted tomorrow, and toxicology tests set to be conducted as well. Nichols said his department is still working on follow-up interviews as well, so be sure to check the next print version for the full run-down on what’s going on in the case.
