WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County authorities have released press information on the accident that occurred last night which claimed the life of a woman in the Pittsburg area.

At approximately 9:16 p.m. the Williamson County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting that a motor vehicle crash had occurred on Pittsburg Blacktop, south of Gabby Road. The caller said that she may have seen a person hit by a car but the caller didn't stop so she wasn't sure.

Williamson County deputies, Pittsburg Fire Department personnel and Williamson County Ambulance EMTs arrived at the scene.

Upon arrival, the father of the driver of the vehicle told deputies that his son had called him after hitting a deer. The car was drivable so his son had left the scene to continue to his workplace and would call to make an accident report after his son got off work. The father told the deputies that the deer must have run into the cornfield.

After searching the area, a female was located in the high grass between the roadway and a cornfield.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williamson County investigators and a Williamson County reconstruction deputy arrived at the scene and an investigation was started into the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was located at work and has been interviewed. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be scheduled by the Williamson County Coroner's Office.

The Pittsburg Blacktop was closed for several hours due to the crash. No further information will be released pending notification of family members.
