CARMI, Ill. - A traffic stop last night in the city of Carmi got a guy hemmed up on a Driving Suspended charge...oh, and then there's the little thing about having an alleged pot stash on him.
Daniel Edward Aud, 24, of Mt. Carmel, apparently hasn't been heeding the advice of the older and more experienced when it comes to combining the elements of what southern Illinois law and the courts believes is a crime: Driving without a driver's license, and having cannabis and smoking devices on your person.
He found it out, however, at about 7 p.m. last night (Monday, July 31), when he was pulled over in his 2015 Dodge Dart at the intersection of Oak and Third streets in Carmi.
When the officer handling the stop found Aud to possess a suspended license, he was taken into custody. A subsequent search of his vehicle found 1 gram of suspected cannabis and a smoking pipe.
Aud was later released after being lighter in the wallet $150, and heavier in the court docket: He's charged with Driving Suspended, Possession of Cannabis Under 10 Grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. So he'll head off to court with the old saw ringing in his ears: When traveling, make sure either you have your papers in order, or leave the weed at home.
