JASPER CO.— Jeffrey Robert Culter, 27, of Jasper County is facing a pair of felonies in a fairly spectacular episode of running afoul of the law.
According to information filed in the case, on July 14 Culter committed the offense of Burglary when, without authority, he knowingly entered a residence located at 708 West Jourdan St., Newton, with the intent to commit theft and did end up taking guns, a laptop and cash.
Culter was also charged with a single count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.
His criminal history includes a conviction September 16, 2008 of a reduced charge from felony to misdemeanor Theft for which he was sentenced to probation for two years, electronic monitoring for 120 days and ordered to pay $2,128.75.
Court documents show that, for some reason, seven days later (Sept. 23, 2008) a jail term of 120 days was imposed.
He was convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication) February 29, 2013 and sentenced to probation for 24 months.
Approximately eight months later (October 22, 2013) he violated the terms of his original sentencing and was resentenced to probation for another 24 months.
That case cost Culter another $2,925 in fines and fees.
No bond information was available in the case.
