X-TRA: $15,000 cash bond set in Fairfield man’s violence case

WHITE CO.— A Fairfield man with a history of violence has been charged with home invasion and battering a former girlfriend.

According to information filed in the case, on March 25 Jeffrey Scott Sanders, 58, of 404 Southwest Seventh St., Fairfield, committed the offense of Home Invasion when he knowingly and without authority, busted a window out of the door of the residence and entered the home belonging to Charlotte Hanmore, located at 1123 Co. Rd. 2240 North, Carmi, at a time when he knew Hanmore would be present and intentionally caused injury to her when he strangled her and proceeded to hit her in the head with a rake.

Sanders’ criminal history includes a July 10, 1984 conviction for Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm for which he was sentenced to probation for two years.

A January 11, 2001 conviction for Aggravated Battery With a Firearm earned Sanders a sentence of conditional discharge for two years and $1,097 in fines and fees.

He was sentenced to IDOC for 18 months March 5, 2003 following a conviction for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication) for which he was also ordered to pay $942 in fines and fees.

And at the time of his most recent arrest Sanders was already serving a sentence of conditional discharge for two years following a February 8, 2017 conviction for Criminal Damage and Theft.

In addition to home invasion, Sanders was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery, Criminal Trespass to a Residence and Criminal Damage to Property.

Cash bond in the case was set at $15,000.
