WHITE CO., Ill. - A burglary at the rural residence of an elderly Carmi couple is the latest in a large and growing number of such crimes in White County.

The burglary at the house belonging to Audrey Huff - which is a second residence for the Huff couple, who also reside in Carmi - was reported yesterday afternoon, Thursday, December 29.

Officers with the White County Sheriff's Department reported that Mrs. Huff, age 74, had been notified by her son that the residence had been accessed at some point in time between Dec. 20, which was the last time the Huffs were there, and yesterday afternoon at a little after 4 p.m., when the Huff's son had gone to the house. He stated he noted a cut screen on the front porch, and a french door onto the porch accessed. Inside, the Huffs were missing a 52-inch LG television and a box of TV cables and wiring missing from the living room, as well as a Black & Decker coffeemaker missing from the kitchen. It also appeared that all the drawers and cabinets inside the residence appeared to have been rifled through.

Interestingly, the burglar had utilized blue latex gloves, a piece of which was found lying on the floor. Mrs. Huff told authorities that there were no blue latex gloves inside the residence.

A report was made, and again...folks are urged to secure their homes and outbuildings in any way possible, as this kind of thieving is going on sometimes in broad daylight, and it's not limited to White; surrounding counties Hamilton and Edwards have had more than their share of burglaries this year.
