GALLATIN CO.—Apparently some election night festivities rolled over into a former elected official’s kid last night.
Cody Martin, 23, of Junction, was stopped last night by Gallatin County authorities on Gold Hill Road south of Shawneetown on a possible traffic infraction. When the deputy went to talk to Martin, however, he noticed the young man appeared to be under the influence of some substance and administered sobriety tests. Martin was subsequently placed under arrest under suspicion of Driving Under the Influence.
At some point after Martin got out of his vehicle, a pot pipe allegedly fell out of his pocket, and Martin was also charged with misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Martin was transported to the White County Jail in Carmi, where he was booked on the DUI charge and where he remains as of this morning.
The development is disappointing for many in Gallatin, as Martin, who was having significant problems with alcohol during the time his father was going through his federal charges, seemed to have redeemed himself upon testifying against the man, and trying to get on with his life, even after a crash in 2010 garnered him his first DUI.
