Allan Stephens
MASSAC CO., Ill. - A Sunday shooting resulted in a Metropolis woman's death - and the arrest and charging of her husband with multiple murder counts.
Illinois State Police District 22 in Ullin helped handle the case, but aren't saying much; what they are saying is that Allan R. Stephens, 61, made a call to 911 at about 5:30 Sunday, December 18, from his home in Metropolis, prompting response from Massac County's sheriff's department.
When a deputy arrived, the found Deborah D. Stephens, 59, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The coroner was called and Mrs. Stephens was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In the interim, Mr. Stephens was taken into custody at about 5:45 p.m., and lodged in the Massac County Jail, where he remains at this time, formally charged with four Class M counts of Murder, and a single Class X felony charge of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. His bond information was not readily available; no court date has been set yet.
