DuQUOIN, Ill. - A young man from DuQuoin is recovering after being run down by a hit-and-run vehicle near the fairgrounds in DuQuoin last weekend.
Cody Yates, 25, was walking near the State Fair grounds on Bob Green Drive in DuQuoin a week ago this evening when he was struck by a vehicle as people were leaving a motorcycle event there. It was described only as a black car, but it lost its side-view mirror in the collision with him. Apparently, there were other witnesses, but any information they've provided has not been released.
It was estimated that the vehicle was traveling at a speed in excess of 50 mph when it struck Yates.
It ran over his right leg at the ankle, as can be seen here (be aware of graphic photos):

He had surgery earlier this week; a source has advised that he had six screws, two rods and a plate placed on the broken bone:
