LAWRENCE CO.—An Illinois State Police investigation into a recent traffic crash in Lawrence County has been completed, and it’s been determined that no tickets will be issued.
The traffic accident, which occurred on Route 1 north of Lawrenceville on Monday, February 25, involved beleaguered county deputy Dennis York. Published reports indicate that York was reacting to a ringing cell phone, which he reached for but lost on the floorboard of the county cruiser he was driving; when York went to retrieve the phone, he leaned down and this caused him to lose control of the vehicle. It subsequently crashed into another vehicle, a city truck belonging to St. Francisville, totaling the county’s cruiser.
ISP’s investigation into the matter concluded that York was not at fault, and no citations have been issued in the case in which if it were any of the rest of us, we’d be slapped with a hefty fine. Apparently, not so York, who not only gets away with it, but loses no pay after totaling yet another county vehicle, something he does with alarming regularity.
This does not bode well for the current investigation going on involving York, since he’s well-practiced in evading the facts of any situation he’s involved in that doesn’t put him in a good light. Disclosure staff has sat in court and watched York testify to falsehoods on the stand with no regard to the fact that he was called on for outright lying. So we’ll see how things shake out with it; a civil no-contact order is expected to be filed by York’s latest target, Lawrence County State’s Attorney Chris Quick. When we get confirmation of that, we’ll bring it to you…or be sure to pick up the next edition of the print version of Disclosure, or get it right here at the convenience of your computer via the e-Edition.
