FLORA, Ill. - A young San Bernardino, California, man was injured last night after a high-speed collision during which two utility poles were snapped in the city of Flora.
Illinois State Police out of District 12 said that the accident happened last night (Wednesday, May 25) at 7:31 p.m. in the 600 block of North Main Street in Flora.
At that time, ISP said, Karl A. Johnston, 24, of San Bernardino, driving a black 2014 Nissan Sentra, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on North Main Street, just south of West 7th Street.
Witnesses indicated that they observed Johnston swerving out of his lane and driving erratically at speeds estimated to between 70 and 80 mph.
Johnston lost control of the vehicle, which jumped the curb and snapped off two utility poles.

The vehicle then collided with a tree before coming to rest on its top.

Johnston was able to get himself out of the vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Clay County Hospital a short time later.
He was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Improper Lane Usage.
