WHITE CO., Ill. - A Carmi man has been sentenced to a stint in Illinois Department of Corrections after entering a plea of guilty to a meth count he was charged with in December 2015.
Charlie E. Newman, 56, of Carmi, was charged following a Dec. 29 arrest with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, a Class 2 felony.
He got no special dispensation, due to his lengthy criminal history (and being old enough to know better) except for the fact that he didn't force the county to go through a trial and instead took a plea, this occurring this morning (Monday, March 28).
In exchange for his plea, Newman got 5 years DOC to be followed by 2 years mandatory supervised release (formerly known as parole); he must also pay all mandatory fines, fees, costs, and assessments, including $1,663 in this case alone...none of which has been paid (although he's got a good track record of having paid these in past felony convictions).
