ALBION—Turmoil in the city of Albion has apparently caused a much greater issue than has been being reported in mainstream news, and tonight, it’s resulted in the immediate resignations of a mayor and city treasurer clerk (CORRECTED), both of whom have been in office for a long time.
Ryan Hallam, Mayor of Albion, and Gary Mason, city treasurer clerk, both resigned their offices effective at 7:32 p.m. tonight, February 4, 2013, after reading an attorney general’s response issued today. Hallam said the reason for his resignation is that he’s taken employment with another insurance agency; Mason’s, for “personal and health reasons.”
The two have been under fire in recent months for the behavior and actions—as well as questionable expenditures, which Freedom of Information Act requests have gone unanswered regarding—of the city’s fire department. Questions having arisen from alderwoman Karen Shupe have gone unanswered as regards expenditures within the fire department. An argument ensued at last month’s meeting (covered here; get your online membership in order to read full coverage, or pick up the current edition, which is only on stands for another week) that underscored the hinky things possibly going on within city business as it pertained to the fire department.
Jade is at the meeting and getting ongoing coverage; when she gets in, we’ll do a news blast and update you, but look for complete coverage in the upcoming February/March edition, when deliveries begin a week from tomorrow, February 12, 2013.
