LAWRENCE CO.—Complaints by grade-school age girls against an elderly Lawrence County man lead to his arrest this morning by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department officials.
Hubert C. “Skip” Davis, 70, Lawrenceville, was arrested after complaints came in through one of the area grade schools from girls on the basketball team. Their complaints were forwarded to DCFS, who, upon a brief interview with the complainants, turned the information over to the sheriff’s department, who affected an arrest this morning.
The complaints were of the nature of alleged fondling. Apparently, Davis had managed to get close to the mothers of several young girls, and, because he was a photographer and was at the school events frequently under the auspices of photographing them for his own purposes, he offered to take some of the grade school basketball girls to practice frequently. While on the road with the girls, he would allegedly manage to fondle them there in his vehicle.
At other times, the girls complained that they believed Davis was taking photos of them when they were bending over, or at least striving to get shots of their crotch areas. Davis is reported to have extremely high-quality, professional equipment, with one zoom-capable lens worth almost a thousand dollars alone.
When authorities went to investigate, they reportedly did find photographic material showing such shots as the girls believed were taken of them.
They also found what’s being reported to us as a very large stash of pornographic video material, allegedly of children dating back to the 70s. This material was on VHS tapes, according to sources. Davis’ house was reported to be full of “piles” of things, with “walkways” through the piles. There’s been no definitive word on what they were piles OF.
Davis has been taken in on a preliminary charge of Indecent Solicitation of a Child. Officials have alluded to the strong probability of more charges stemming from whatever is found in the “material” discovered at his home, including on his computer. Currently he’s being held on a $500,000 bail ($50,000 cash bond). As we learn more, we’ll pass it along.
