HARDIN CO. — Hardin County Ambulance Service employees were shocked Wednesday, December 5, to learn they had been reduced to just one ambulance over night.
A county board meeting held Tuesday, wherein board members were approached by Hardin County Ambulance Service’s local 773 union steward Wayne Lane Lang and union rep Bill Trout, with a new union contract that offered to save the county over $60,000 annually, ended unresolved regarding accepting the new contract that was up for renewal.
Previously, the service ran off of two ambulances—one for transfers and the other to handle emergency 911 calls.
The board announced they would have another meeting Thursday (today) to discuss it. On Wednesday however, Hardin County Ambulance workers were notified that the service was going be cut back to just one truck, two employees were going be laid off, and another employee to be cut back from full to part time.
Hardin County Ambulance Service has been mismanaged for years by former manager Ed Conkle, now deceased, and former county commissioner, Wayne Eichorn, who lost the election this year.
The next scheduled board meeting is today, December 6th at 1:30 pm at the Hardin County courthouse.
