EFFINGHAM CO., Ill.—Illinois State Police are still investigating the death of a pedestrian last night, which occurred on U.S. 45 north of the community of Heartville in Effingham County.
According to the preliminary information from ISP District 12 in Effingham, the incident occurred last night (Friday, December 26) at 9:30 p.m.
ISP said Edward W. Blumer, 41, of Effingham, was walking northbound at the side of U.S. 45 in the vicinity of County Road 1375th Street when he was struck by a tan 2003 Nissan truck.
Authorities say Gregory Yocum, 56, of Effingham, advised he couldn’t see Blumer because the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.
Upon further investigation, however, Yocum was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
Blumer was transported from the scene to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, where he was pronounced deceased.
The accident remains under investigation by District 12 as well as the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
