COLES CO.—Dan W. Good, 18, of 505 Lakeshore Drive, Oakland has been charged with Residential Burglary.
According to authorities, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on September 28 Theresa Brewer called the Oakland Police Department and advised the officer on duty that she had just received a phone call from Dan Good.
Brewer said Good told her that he became intoxicated the night before and had broken into her apartment, located at 429 Lake Shore Dr. #D-1, Oakland, and stole a bottle of vodka from her freezer.
Ms. Brewer further confirmed for the officer that she did have a bottle of vodka in her freezer and that she was currently in Mattoon and unable to get to Oakland to see if she had been robbed.
When officers drove by her apartment they noticed the back door to the apartment had been forced open and the doorframe was broken.
They then contacted Brewer and advised her of the damage to the door.
At around noon the officer met at city hall with Brewer and the pair proceeded to her apartment.
The officer asked Brewer if she would call Good and make arrangements to have him come to her apartment.
She called him and he told her he would be there in a few minutes.
The officer then waited in Brewer’s bedroom just a few feet away and when Good arrived Brewer advised him she was upset that he broke into her apartment, stole her vodka and damaged her door.
That’s when the officer said he heard Good apologize and offer to pay for the damages and stated that he was intoxicated when he broke into her apartment and was sorry.
At that point the officer came out of the bedroom and arrested Good.
This isn’t the first time Mr. Good has been in trouble with the law.
His first felony was earned the beginning in January of this year for which he was convicted of, oddly enough, Residential Burglary and was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and ordered to pay a total of $350 of which he’s paid nothing.
Mr. Good was booked into the Coles County jail on a $2,000 cash bond, which was posted October 1 by Jimmy L. Good of the same Oakland address.
