HARDIN CO.—The Hardin County Work Camp, located on Highway 1 going south toward Cave-In-Rock, was the scene of a fire this evening, bringing quick response from around the area and forcing inmates into the gym for their own safety.
By 9:30, the fire was believed to be contained and under control, but it was scary for a bit shortly before that, when it is believed to have broken out in the kitchen of the state facility. The fire is reported to have seriously damaged the walls and ceiling of the kitchen. Inmates were taken to the gym as stated, and the plan is to transfer them to other facilities until the mess is cleaned up.
Firefighters from Elizabethtown, Cave, Rosiclare and from Pope County, along with local ambulance services, were at the scene.
