HARDIN CO., Ill.—A fire at a two-story residential structure on the curve of Highway 146 going into Elizabethtown from the north has sprung back up again this evening after it burned briefly this morning.
According to E-town residents, the house caught fire this morning under somewhat strange circumstances: Before firefighters could arrive, Sheriff JT Fricker entered the structure and located the source of it, this being a mattress, which he literally dragged outside and then stopped any further damage to the structure.
However, it started back up tonight—with the mattress gone, of course—and now it’s fully engulfed.
The house is not far from public housing just off Highway 146. Fire officials have reportedly shut down the highway in order to fight it.
More in the morning.
