If you’re one of those Illinoisans who trek past your city’s limits to avoid a steep sales tax, you’re not alone. Illinois, with a base sales tax of 6.25 percent, is ranked 10th in the nation for highest combined state and average local sales tax.
Thirteen cities have a sales tax higher than 9 percent, which is 0.008 percent of all cities’ sales tax listed by the Department of Revenue. Here are the lucky 13.
