HAMILTON CO., Ill.—A traffic crash in Hamilton County lead to a sleepy driver being taken to a local hospital.
The single-vehicle crash occurred on Illinois Route 142, approximately three-quarters of a mile south of the Hoodville community in Hamilton County yesterday evening (Friday, November 14, 2014) at approximately 4:50 p.m.
Illinois State Police who worked the crash said that John D. Kelly, age 24, of Pinckneyville (also referenced in the report as John D. Jones; clarification will no doubt come along shortly) was northbound at that location on 142 in a silver 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he reportedly fell asleep and crossed the center line. The vehicle proceeded to leave the roadway and struck an embankment.
A male passenger, age 25, of Coulterville, Illinois, who was not identified by ISP, was not injured in the crash; however, Kelly was transported by Harre’s Ambulance Service to an area hospital for injuries he sustained.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, McLeansboro Police Department, Harre’s Ambulance Service, and J&R Towing of McLeansboro, who removed the Dodge Ram truck from the crash scene.
Kelly was cited for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt; the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
