Here it is, the November issue of Disclosure and one of many in our current trial run of having a paper every three weeks! Deliveries have been made in most locations (a few stragglers out there; which we’ll pick up soon) and you can pick up this issue at those…or, you can get yourself an online membership to the e-Edition and read it right here at the comfort of your computer or other electronic device. And to aid you in getting right to what you want to read, we give you links to print headlines…which also give insight into what’s in this print edition, and gives you a heads-up as to what this issue contains. Print headlines are presented in sections–front page, back page (which serves as a second front page), pages 2 and 3, Egypt, Heartland, Central, and Op-Ed; they’re presented dateline first, followed by the headline link and a brief synopsis of what the article is about. And now without further ado, here are THIS MONTH’S PRINT HEADLINES.
PAGE 1
SALINE/RICHLAND/LAWRENCE Cos.—Violent former cop focus of multi-county court battles: Feeling like we’ve been kind of slacking off in our duties here recently? Like we’ve been a little distracted for the past several months and kind of half-stepping? Well guess what…? You’re RIGHT. Our work bringing you the crime and corruption news in downstate Illinois has been impacted by a convicted petty crim who unfortunately joined our family earlier this year and proceeded to just about tear apart everything we’ve worked for 12 years to establish, by nothing other than sheer narcissism and slackitude. But we’ve got it back on track…and now, we’re bringing you the story, presented in multiple parts so you can understand thoroughly what we’ve been going through since about April of this year. We apologize for the abruptions while we’ve been working through this mess; and we now know a little better how to manage crises and still bring you the news, because believe me…this has been a crisis and in fact still is. Read this article to understand…and know that we now have some fail-safes in place to ensure that this doesn’t continue to occur.
JASPER CO.—Students claim teacher’s aide was masturbating in class: This is the big story coming out of Jasper County and kept about as vague and subsequently quiet as it could be (although much of the reality of it leaked out to us, the only news outlet brave enough to put the truth in a headline.) We’re surprised it hasn’t made national news…but give it some time. Our school districts are failing us. This is but one example…in just this issue.
HARDIN CO.—Abstract office door pad-locked, prosecutor fuming: It’s like Tara Wallace just REALLY WANTS to go down in history as the most reviled prosecutor in Hardin County, ever (and considering some of the former ones, that’s saying a lot). She’s managed to piss off a whole new round of people with her latest bonehead move, and this article covers it all.
RICHLAND CO.—Mother and son charged with incest: So we’re sitting at the Richland County courthouse getting our new probate case with the granddaughter underway, and basically, up walks this story, right in front of us. And we’re here to tell you…we were absolutely aghast, as were a whole bunch of people present at the time, that this occurred…and perplexed as to how anyone even found out about it. What is the nature of it…? “Sex between family members,” Illinois’ watered-down legal term for one of the remaining taboos in this country, INCEST. Read the disgusting account here in this front-page article.
BACK PAGE
MARION—Former Blankenship Building burns; recently changed hands: Coverage of the fire that occurred over the production weekend, including some tidbits that Marion and Williamson County media simply WON’T tell you…because “they have to live there, you know.”
EDGEWOOD—Six busted in suspected Edgewood meth ring: Clay County officials have been busy taking care of the alleged meth-makers in the part of the county that borders Effingham, and boy have they had their hands full.
SALINE/HARDIN CO.—Former chief deputy facing additional charge: Bobby Deppen again, proving that if you’re inclined to run an alleged insurance scam, don’t even think about it…at least if you’re a cop, because the eye of scrutiny will be upon you closely, and you could get charged in multiple counties.
PAGE 3
Net Neutrality is anything BUT, and YOU could suffer the consequences of it: Our tech talk guy, Chris, brings you this article explaining what “Net Neutrality” is, and how it could screw up everything you do on the internet. No matter if you have a successful eBay account, check the stock market quotes several times a day, operate a successful business online or just like to spend a couple of hours each day surfing your favorite news sites, “Net Neutrality” is a threat to you. You’re going to want to read this, as it breaks it down in terms that anyone can understand.
EGYPT
SALINE CO.—Busy–but not hostile—county board meeting covers ongoing financial issues: Coverage of the Saline County board meeting at October’s end, just days before the election…and it’s quite interesting the machinations some people will go through when they really want to make a point and maybe impact a vote.
SALINE CO.—Well-known former real estate agent facing felony charges: L’Erin Ragon again. Poor kid has problems, and this is a furtherance of what we knew was coming as long ago as early 2013…but sometimes, you just have to let em fall.
HARDIN CO.—Thefts and escape charged in Hardin: Coverage post-escape of Rob Rush, and those who are alleged to have assisted him (and how) when he attempted his short-lived escape from Hardin County Sheriff’s Department custody in mid-October, as well as some of the other general crim information coming out of Hardin.
WILLIAMSON CO.—Neighbors’ feud results in charges filed: An ongoing saga involving the popular Jeff Jenkins of Pittsburg in Williamson County, and how he’s being persecuted because of a neighbor-feud. We know the feeling well. Let’s hope his has as good of an outcome as ours did.
SALINE CO.—Woman threatens to cut man’s throat: Crim coverage of Saline County-charged individuals in the violence category…and let’s face it, threatening to cut someone’s throat is a pretty violent thing, even if it wasn’t carried out.
SALINE CO.—Bad checks and exploitation charged in Saline: Unfortunately, bad check charges often increase at this time every year as we move toward the holiday season. And this month, there are quite a few.
WILLIAMSON CO.—Tombstone Gun Range sued over February incident by injured woman: The situation with Lindsey Potts getting shot in the face at the Union training grounds has come to a lawsuit.
WILLIAMSON CO.—Dirt work begins for new Marion retailer: What’s going in as the new retailer in the TIF District that’s been under so much scrutiny in Marion? No one’s being told, but the bigger question is: Are they going to be able to handle being on a filled-in strip pit that, like other businesses in the area, is going to sink and create foundation problems for the business? I think you know the answer to that one…
HEARTLAND
CRAWFORD CO.—The ‘Dictator of the State of Illusion’ dismisses SC case against judge: One of the strangest little stories to come out of Crawford County in a LONG time…and it looks like it might be over; however, looks, as you know, can be deceiving.
EDGAR/JASPER/CRAWFORD COs.—A disappointing election in Edgar, pretty good outcome in Jasper, Crawford counties: Post-election coverage that we didn’t get to here at the website on election night, with the good and the bad.
MARSHALL—Challenge to Marshall alderman over her position on city council has been filed: The utter hubris of many people acting in public capacities throughout Illinois cannot be underestimated. Here’s one that’s simply going to knock your socks off. And maybe your shoes, too.
CENTRAL
LAWRENCE CO.—Former Lawrenceville cop sued in civil court over 2013 Bridgeport dog attack: An interesting civil suit has been filed in Lawrence County, over an incident that relatively few people really knew about when it happened last year, and which, it appears, no media has covered at all…and it involves one of Mefford’s former Misfits, which always makes for intriguing news.
RICHLAND CO.—Local woman extradited to Knox Co. on Theft count: This one kinda left us speechless too. Richland Countians need to read this one to know what’s going on.
HAMILTON CO.—Woman paralyzed after Hamilton County motorcycle accident: The mainstream media reports of the bike wreck involving Curtis Lowell Goolsby and Misty Yarber didn’t tell the whole story. But we have it…and it’s pretty bad.
WABASH CO.—Sex offense by high school special educator charged, concluded, all before judicial race—prosecutor fails to prevail in bid for judge: I know we shouldn’t think it’s an unusual situation to combine the coverage of a child sex case and a judicial race in the same story…but this is southern Illinois we’re talking about here, and pretty much anything goes these days.
CLAY CO.—Disagreeable dope convict enters plea to five-finger discount at hair salon: Print coverage of Jesteeeeeeen Weiler Billingsley’s latest run-in with the law, for our readers who don’t get online. Because everyone needs to know.
RICHLAND CO.–Feud between Olney girls leads to stalking charge: Ah, teenagers. They just get into all kinds of things, don’t they? Like Stalking/No-Contact Orders.
RICHLAND CO.—Tough guy Trout beaten in jail; wants to hold everyone else responsible: Really, you should be safe a free from harm when being held in county lockup for violating your parole and/or beating up a person, whether it be your spouse or some jerk you encountered at a local watering hole. Unless, of course, your last name is Trout.
WHITE CO.—Marion couple sues Carmi Pizza Hut in vague, typo-laden filing: Man, I know that on deadline, especially these last three, we are prone to making mistakes. But some of these attorneys out here could probably use a proofreader in their office like we have.
HAMILTON CO.—Theft, violence and drugs charged: The rest of the Hamilton County crim report, with the usual crimes alleged to have been committed by some unusual suspects…including one guy whose name kinda sounds like that of a super-hero….
WAYNE CO.—Obnoxious Arson convict slapped with no-contact order; subsequently dismissed: There’ll come a day when someone’s going to get a top tech guy to investigate a complaint against the vile Roy Dean “Deano Demeano” Finley in Wayne County…and no amount of begging or getting down on his knees to…well, I’ll leave that up to your imagination, but it really happened…is going to get him out of it. In the meantime, here’s a preview of what can and should happen to him in court…and how sick this guy is to keep doing what he’s doing, then deny it.
CLAY CO.—Clay County pharmacy precursor sweep nets multiple methamphetamine arrests: The Clay County drug report sans the entire Edgewood thing (see above)…which still makes for a busy report.
LAWRENCE CO.—Lawrence County lawmen round up three on multiple drug charges: The Lawrence County dope report.
WABASH CO.—Judicial race may have dampened prosecution, but not Wabash crime: Frankly, we’re getting a little tired of being asked why we’re “not covering more Wabash County stuff.” Really? Ask Cassandra Goldman, who’s been too busy campaigning these last several months to get the real crims out of there. Nevertheless, there’s an interesting batch right here…so here’s some coverage. We can’t make it up, peeps…it’s gotta happen for us to write it, contrary to what the Marchers want to say.
RICHLAND CO.—Children found at scene of drug bust: More kids being kept in abusive/neglectful situations, this one at the site of a dope bust. Too bad it has to rise to that kind of thing before the authorities will do something about it…especially in Richland.
LAWRENCE CO.—Lawrence man faces burglary and fleeing charges: Print coverage of the situation that landed a Lawrence County crim right back in jail after he was alleged to have broken out a window at Lawrenceville’s Casey‘s, and more in this crim report on crimes against property.
