SALINE/HARDIN CO.— It appears the rumors of embattled former Hardin County Chief Deputy Robert “Bobby” Deppen, 47, facing even more criminal charges were true.

While some area lawmen say they are shocked at the number of criminal charges being leveled against former Hardin County Chief Deputy Robert “Bobby” Deppen, pictured left, others say they believe there may still be more charges waiting in the wings. Deppen stands acused of committing insurance fraud in both Johnson and Saline counties totalling $153,700.
Deppen, who was suspended from his Hardin County duties June 5 after he was charged in Johnson County with Insurance Fraud greater than $10,000 but less than $100,000 and Disorderly Conduct/Filing a False Report, both felonies, now faces a charge in Saline County.
Saline charge
According to information filed in the case, Deppen has been charged in Saline County with one count of Insurance Fraud.
Authorities allege that on November 28, 2013 Deppen knowingly attempted to obtain, by deception, control over $81,700 from the Auto Owners Insurance Company by making a false claim on an insurance police issued by the company.
Deppen turned himself in Nov. 7 and was released from custody after posting a $2,000 cash bond.
Johnson charge
Initial reports from investigators into the Johnson County case indicates that in June of 2011 Deppen reported his motor home had been broken into and items stolen.
Information filed in the case then alleges that in November 2011, Deppen fraudulently filed a claim against COUNTRY Financial for a loss of $72,000.
The false report charge alleges Deppen lied when he reported the burglary/theft involving the motor home on June 2, 2011.
Deppen is expected back in court in Saline later this month.
