GALLATIN/SALINE/POPE COs.—There’s a kind of bizarre situation that developed at about 1 p.m. today, 10.14.12.
It was at about that time that police received a 911 call from a woman indicating that she and her boyfriend had just gotten into a fight and she claimed he “tried to kill her.” She advised that he left the residence in a white Pontiac registered to Stephanie Chamberlain of Ridgway, and with a handgun in his possession.
A Saline County deputy was able to stop the car described, with a man wearing no shirt driving it. However, when the deputy got out of his cruiser, the man with no shirt took off, setting off a chase situation.
Illinois State Police troopers from Districts 19 and 22 joined in at that point. They chased him on Williams Hill Road, but he continued to give them the slip. During that time, authorities advised that the man was wanted on a warrant out of Gallatin County for Domestic Violence against the same female making the call (whether this is Chamberlain or not remains unknown at this point).
The chase continued down into Pope County and supposedly has ended at a campsite, where it was learned that he has a pellet gun and some knives. Scanner traffic has gone quiet at this point; it appears there’s some kind of confab going on to figure out just what to do about the guy, whose name we don’t have yet, but it was reported right before the crickets began chirping over the scanner that the guy might also have a warrant in Pope as well.
When we get more, we’ll bring it…keep checking back.
