VANDALIA, Ill.—Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving an SUV and Train (CSX Transportation) that occurred in Vandalia on 6th St. at Main Street last night (Thursday, October 30, 2014).
According to ISP, the collision occurred at approximately 6:48 p.m., when an SUV attempted to cross the railroad tracks while the lights were on and the stop arm was down.
ISP said there was a total of five occupants in the SUV, with three confirmed fatalities: Ages 10, 13, and 18, of Greenville, Illinois. Two occupants of the SUV were airlifted for medical treatment.
ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, ISP District 12 and Fayette County Coroner’s office continue the investigation.
