POSEY CO., Ind.—The pilot of the aircraft that went down in a rural Posey County location Friday afternoon has been identified by authorities.

The pilot was Kathryn Day Culley, 69, of Posey County.

The aircraft was a Zenith 701, what’s being called an “amateur-built” airplane (not one out of the factory, but one that flight enthusiasts can order in a kit and/or construct on their own; it was initially being called a Cessna), which was reported to have struck a power line after making a turn in the area of the county located at the intersection of Copperline and Base roads at about 5:15 p.m. The craft was largely consumed by flames after impact, making it difficult for authorities to identify the remains of anyone on board as of Friday night.

Disclosure spoke with Indiana State Police’s Todd Ringle Saturday afternoon, who at that time advised that there would be an autopsy of the remains found today, including comparison of dental records, to confirm that the remains were indeed those of someone in the Culley family, to whom, we were advised Friday night, the craft belonged.

The investigation into the incident reportedly continues.
