Remember this article we put up last week, a Read the Lead that has to do with this article in the October 2014 edition?
We were alerted this morning that someone, likely Jan Mills (or someone acting on her behalf), was back on topix with a posting claiming that Disclosure‘s article about the lawsuit Mills (also known as Burno, as in posts like this one and this one) filed was ‘a lie.’ Here’s the screencap as provided by one of our fine Olney peeps who frequents topix, since we eschew it:
You’ll notice that the South Carolina commenter offered a link; this link is to the Cook County courts and goes directly to the case Burno Mills has against topix and the multitude of internet service providers. If you click this link, it’ll take you there and you can note that some of the service providers or hosting locales have been dismissed from the suit.
We don’t know why they were dismissed, however, a good possibility is that the providers told the court to go piss up a rope. And anyway, that’s not how you go about finding out who’s talking about you on topix; you have to wait for the people to out themselves…as we have. More on that later.
In the meantime, it’s not clear what Mills wants, exactly, except that she would like to retaliate against those who’ve gone on topix and “defamed and slandered” her…this after she makes posts like the one at the top of the above thread…which, by the way, has been pulled from topix, according to my Olney source. Problem is, you can’t just get pissed at everyone who says something bad about you on the internet; you have to prove there are some kind of actual damages…like a business, as an example, who can show reduced income or activity after idiots on topix have said false things about them.
Apparently, someone didn’t do her research.
Anyway, we thought you might get a kick out of it. We did. There’ll be more on the case in the upcoming edition (November 2014) of Disclosure, on stands November 12; in the meantime, PICK UP THE ELECTION EDITION, which is going on stands TODAY and deliveries of which are almost complete!
