JACKSON CO., Ill.—There’s quite a firestorm of controversy surrounding some news originating out of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale…and all because of some vague information coming out today.
According to a report this evening on a local TV station, Tyler Smithpeters, the SIU starting point guard from Harrisburg who is currently a sophomore at SIU-C, has been suspended from the SIU-C Salukis basketball team for “violating the university code of conduct.”
This unexplained infraction means that Smithpeters is not allowed to attend class or be on campus, and is apparently the result of an ongoing university investigation.
There is apparently an appeal having been filed by Smithpeters, and he is reported to be awaiting word on that, which could come later this week.
The reports indicate that if Smithpeters loses the appeal, it could mean he could be suspended up to two years by the university.
However, we don’t know what it is that he’s alleged to have done. There are no court files available on the situation, and no official reports by law enforcement have been made.
We’ll keep looking into it, though. You may feel free to issue your opinion on the matter, or contact us if you have information that we can check out.
