FAYETTE CO., Ill.—The man who walked away from Fayette County Correctional yesterday is in a heap of trouble.
According to Illinois Department of Corrections spokesperson Tom Shaer, DOC will be pursuing criminal charges against Marcus Battice for his alleged escape yesterday.
The charges are going to be filed through state court (Fayette County State’s Attorney).
Shaer said that conviction would result in an additional prison sentence for Battice, who was serving a sentence on a Possession of a Stolen Vehicle conviction.
“This inmate had been eligible for parole in less than four months; it is highly unusual, anywhere in the United States, for minimum-security offenders to attempt escape so close to their parole date,” Shaer said earlier today.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
