One of our favorite people in all of downstate Illinois has suffered a massive heart attack and is in the intensive care unit of Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

Becky Malkovich, whose family is from the Benton area and ran the local paper for decades there, and whose brother, John Malkovich, is a well-known Hollywood actor, suffered the heart attack earlier today.
Family has noted that her condition as of about 2 p.m. today is listed as critical.
We’ve worked side by side with Becky on a number of major stories over the last four years, including Raymond Martin’s federal trial and the Coston murder case in White County. Ang has a signature thing she started when we first began doing podcasts in 2011: “We love Miss Malkovich” gets popped into anything we’re casting about (NewsCap, too) if Becky’s involved in covering that particular story too. It’s become such a fun thing to say and our friendship has been so pleasant that last year, we invited her to stop in at the beach house while we were on vacation (we also told her she could bring John if she wanted, as it’s a pretty secluded place.) She didn’t get to go (news, you know) but we had also invited her this year as well.
We hope she makes a full recovery and is back on her feet in enough time to come on down to the Gulf.
