A Washington state prosecutor accused of helping a repeat convict avoid a jail cell has resigned.
Marriya Wright, 34, stepped down from her position as a Spokane County deputy prosecutor on Wednesday, KXLY reports. Wright has been suspended with pay since April after allegations emerged that she helped Matthew Baumrucker, 31, evade capture.
Unsealed court documents claim Wright and Baumrucker, who has a tattoo on his head that says “criminal,” sent 1,280 texts to a cell phone linked to Wright between Feb. 6 and March 5. He was eventually arrested on a drug warrant, but, according to KXLY, Wright allegedly tried to help him avoid police.
