KEEPING UP WITH THE WATER WAR IN PITTSBURG, ILLINOIS

jenkins, jeffWe’ve had a lot of people asking what has become of Jeff Jenkins, the owner of Maverick Stables in Pittsburg in Williamson County, whose story about the battle he was facing in that village with water issues graced the pages earlier this year.

We sent our Williamson County correspondent out to do a follow up…and here’s what she found out. Featured on the back page of the current (August-September 2014) edition, here’s your noontime Read the Lead, Truce called in water war:

WILLIAMSON CO.—The Pittsburg man who had filed a Small Claims case against the village providing his water has dropped his claim in Williamson County circuit court.

After the article featuring Pittsburg resident Jeff Jenkins appeared in the May-June issue of Disclosure outlining steps Jenkins was attempting to take in order to secure water to his business, Maverick Stables, as well as to renters on his property at the 15-acre location, the mayor of Pittsburg, Keith Violett, had called Jenkins and said they could work something out, so Jenkins had the suit dismissed.

The suit was a monetary demand of the village in the amount of $10,000 due to “harassment, child endangerment and animal cruelty” to four families with eight children among them, as well as the horses and other animals at the stables, after the village demanded that he place new water meters on the property at an incredible expense, four in all at $4,000 each.

Jenkins dismissed the suit on June 9 after…
