Saline County — During Thursday night’s meeting of the Harrisburg City Council, the council voted on a nomination for appointing a new Mayor.
Commissioner John McPeek opened the subject by talking about the difficulties faced by the city and it’s residents, which included a deadly tornado, the sickness of disgraced ex-mayor Eric Gregg, the sickness and battle against cancer by Mayor Ron Crank, and sadly, his death.
After the death of Crank, the council had discussed what would be best for the city. “We have eight months left with the present council,” said McPeek, who then said that the council had agreed to appoint a new mayor to serve for those months. McPeek then motioned for the appointment of Commissioner Dale Fowler to serve as mayor for the remainder of the time of the present council. Commissioner Ron Fearheiley seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimously approved.
At the end of the meeting, City Clerk Sally Wofford swore in Dale Fowler as the new Mayor for the City of Harrisburg.
Fowler will serve as mayor until the time of the installation of the new council, unless he is voted in as mayor by the residents of the City.
