INDIANA—Two women from southwestern Indiana are currently subjects of an intensive search effort, by both authorities and their communities, after going missing, one last week, one in early July.
Kristy Kelley, 27, of Boonville, Ind., and Joelle Lockwood, 30, of Evansville, have both vanished without a trace, and under somewhat unusual circumstances…so unusual that mainstream media has gotten behind the search effort, if for no reason other than the strange similarities the two women had: both from southwestern Indiana; both mothers of two children whose families characterized them as “not the type of people to run off and away from their children”; both wearing similar attire at the time of their disappearance (tank tops and shorts).
The fact that they disappeared less than 20 miles of each other also play heavily into the situation.
Lockwood was last seen walking in the Park Street and Florida Street area of Evansville on the evening of July 9.
Kelley was last seen at the VFW hall in Boonville at 1:30 a.m. this past Friday, August 15, where she had been with friends. Her car was later observed on a security camera at both an ice cream shop and a church, but it was unclear whether she was the one driving it.
Further, Kelley’s cell phone was left at the VFW, a circumstance her family calls “highly unusual.”
Here are photos of the women, along with more information as placed on fliers in the Vanderburgh and Warrick counties area of southwestern Indiana:
In Lockwood’s case, a “person of interest” (as characterized by law enforcement in Vanderburgh County) has been tagged as having been from the Maunie/Rising Sun area of White County in Illinois. Authorities searched that area of the county, which sits alongside the Wabash River, over the weekend, with nothing of note found. Lockwood has a criminal history in the area according to online documents; people who are in charge of her search are lambasting those who are bringing this up, stating that “her past has nothing to do with the anything!!” Unfortunately, however, any “past” certainly DOES have to do with situations in which a person might have come to harm/foul play; associations with the criminal element are exactly what cops use when first trying to sort out the details of a person’s disappearance. Authorities, however, have not said how the “person of interest” was involved with Lockwood…or who this person might be.
A recent Vanderburgh County mugshot, in fact, is what’s been widely distributed to let people know what Lockwood looks like.
Folks are urged to call their local authorities if they have any information at all on what might lead to locating either of the women.
