EDWARDS CO., Ill.—Years ago we first wrote about Kitch Cole Kitchen, and now, his case, which has been working its way through Edwards County circuit court with multiple violations added, has finally ended with a DOC sentence.
Kitch, 39, originally of Kentucky, was charged in a 2009 case wherein he was alleged to have been a Felon who Escaped from then-officer Greg Beauligmann in Edwards when he ran from Beauligmann in an attempt to not be arrested on probation violations, these emerging from other counties as well as Edwards.
But with all this, Kitch is most noted for being the shooting victim of one Julie Laws, who made headlines in late 2008 after she shot Kitch in the leg while in the parking lot of the Big Lots store in Granite City, Illinois. Laws, from West Salem, was charged with that incident with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in or from an occupied vehicle. She entered a guilty plea in May of 2009 and got probation…and an OP against Kitch.
In the interim, Kitch kept on running afoul of the law in the aforementioned various Illinois counties, and Edwards’ prosecutor Mike Valentine kept track of it all; these were such violations as driving without a license, as well as not showing up for pay or appear. There were five violations in all. Continuing to file revocations on Kitch, Valentine finally got to the point where the whole mess was enough to send Kitch to DOC, which is what happened today: Kitch Kitchen and his goofy name are now headed to prison for a year on the original Obstructing Justice charge from 2009, amended from the Escaping a Peace Officer charge Kitch landed for running from Beauligmann. We hope he enjoys his stay.
