JASPER CO., Ill.—Illinois State Police District 12 has released information on an ATV crash that occurred just before 8 p.m. last night, Sunday, August 3.
According to District 12 in Effingham, the ATV crash injured two people when the driver of a Polaris Ranger ATV, being operated on a county highway two miles southeast of Newton, lost control and went off the road to the left, overturning in a ditch.
The driver of the ATV was Jacob J. Matthews, 24, of Charleston; his passenger, Collin Geltz, 21, of Newton. They were both ejected from the ATV.
Matthews was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment of major injuries, ISP reported. Geltz was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney for the treatment of minor injuries.
State Police cited Matthews for operating an ATV on roadway; other charges are pending in Jasper County circuit court.
