WAYNE CO., Ill.—Illinois State Police worked the scene of a traffic accident today on U.S. 45 in Wayne County that involved four vehicles, the initial one driven by a Mt. Erie teen.

The multi-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Rt. 45 approximately 500 feet north of Wayne County Road 2100N at about 2:43 p.m. today, Thursday, June 19, 2014.

A red Chevrolet S-10, being driven by Dylan W. Massie, 18, of Mt. Erie, was traveling southbound on 45, approaching a construction zone approximately 500 feet north of Wayne County Road 2100N. Due to a distraction inside his vehicle, Massie failed to observe the vehicles traveling in front of him were slowing to stop at the construction zone.

Massie’s truck struck the rear of a 2004 gray Buick Lesabre being driven by Michele A. Johnson, 57, of Rock Falls, Illinois, pushing it into the rear of a 2013 black Toyota Sienna being operated by Sarah L. Keck, 36, of Cisne.  The black Toyota then struck the rear of a 2013 black Ford F-150 being driven by William R. Nuxoll, 31, of Teutopolis.

Johnson was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash. Massie received minor injuries, but declined medical treatment at the scene. All of the drivers involved were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Barry’s Towing of Fairfield removed the red Chevrolet and gray Buick from the scene. The Illinois State Police was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.

Massie was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.
