EDGEWATER, FLA.— A women’s not-for-profit motorcycle club out of Edgewater, Fla., with an international reach, has purchased land off the coast of Florida and is turning it into a retreat of sorts.
The Leather and Lace Motorcycle Club, founded in 1930 has the same goals today as they established 31 years ago; to help local charities, help children and families in need through fundraising projects while riding their motorcycles.
The group is currently constructing a “Serenity Pond/Garden” on recently obtained 10 acres of land in Edgewater, which is located six miles off the coast of Florida.
“The land has three buildings and a lot of open ground,” said a spokesperson for the group. “We call it ‘Angels Landing’.”
The group feels the name appropriate as it reflects their goal of building a place not only for their members but for all those in need of a place they can come to catch their breaths, rest, heal and keep moving in life.
“On the property there is a very tiny overgrown pond,” the spokesperson said. “Our dream is to create a ‘Serenity Pond’ with a garden that will be a place where people can come to reflect, heal spend time with loved ones and enjoy the beautiful foliage mother nature has to offer.”
The group has visions of outdoor weddings, prayer services, picnics and children running around.
One of the groups fundraisers is for John Hopkins Avon Fundraiser Breast Cancer Center.
Through that contact, the group has come to realize there are very few places people suffering from cancer can go and be themselves while going through treatment.
“We want to offer that to them,” the spokesperson said.
The group is also planning to plat trees that are not normally seen including Rainbow Eucalyptus and fruit trees.
A vegetable garden is also in the planning with produce from both fruit trees and the garden going to local food banks.
“Our community is in need of a place like this and we of Leather & Lace MC are very determined to make this dream come true.
