Many folks were wondering why we didn’t have much of a followup to the terrible car v semi crash in Pope County that injured the driver and passengers on the evening of Sunday, June 1.
There were a couple of reasons…chief among them being that while Pope County authorities worked the crash, Illinois State Police were the ones tasked with issuing citations, as they took over for Pope at the scene. And it’s really difficult to get through to ISP District 22 in Ullin (as it is with all ISP posts), after the budget cuts last year. And then, when we finally did get through to them, they preferred to defer all questions to Tambra Cain, state’s attorney down in Pope…also another public official who’s more than a little difficult to get ahold of, but get ahold of her we did, by phone.
However, there was a little more to it than even that.
Turns out the driver of the smashed-up car was none other than the Galatia police chief’s daughter…and as a result, news was somewhat slow coming out about the crash. Especially given that the girl is already on a punishment of supervision for an Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol conviction in a neighboring county.

Herron was taken from the scene by helicopter to an Evansville hospital, where it was reported by friends that it was initially suspected she had suffered internal injuries, but that wasn’t the case; instead, she was just “cut up” and bruised in the collision. She was treated and released.
With Herron in the vehicle was an odd assortment of….
