We were fortunate enough to be the recipient of a rescue cat on Wednesday, June 11.
The delivery team was in Grayville when they located the source of a pitiful meowing and found a kitten at the side of the road who looked for all the world like he was going to fall over dead any second: he was dehydrated and obviously malnourished, likely one of a litter that was just dumped in a bag or a box and left to die.
So they brought him home and started restorative efforts. He bounced right back, as some kittens will. He’s loud and very rowdy, but very small. In honor of how they found him, the delivery team named him “Roadkill.” When we got back home yesterday and interacted with him, we figured a better moniker would be “RK.”
So here’s RK:
He’s in the big-head stage. If you could see his little behind, you’d know that he has definitely been undernourished.
Wait. We can show you his behind:
Yep. After working with them most of the night last night, the Cat-Whisperer finally convinced Tip, the calico pictured above with her new brood born Tuesday, to take on RK as one of her own. (Actually, it was more convincing RK to join up…he’s been feeling fairly independent this past 24 hours or so).
We were going to run RK over to the vet in Mt. Carmel who took such fine care of Toasty Marshmallow a year ago this month, but we don’t really want to separate him from the adoptive mommy. What do you think…? Should we just leave him be with the new brood and hope for the best; or should we tote him over to Mt. Carmel and have him checked out, thus separating him from what’s obviously a good thing, even if it’s just overnight?
