WAYNE CO., Ill.—The teenage driver of a vehicle full of teenage passengers has been cited after a crash into a ditch and a tree earlier this evening in Wayne County.
Illinois State Police worked the crash, which occurred at about 6:15 this evening on Wayne County Road 1400 East.
According to ISP, a 16-year-old male of Flora was driving a blue 2010 Toyota Corolla on that road approximately 200 feet north of Wayne County Road 1625 North when he lost control of the vehicle and drove into the east ditch. He overcorrected the vehicle and traveled back across the roadway, resulting in a collision with the west ditch and a tree.
Three other teens were with the driver: a 14-year-old female from Cisne; and two 15-year-old males from Flora. All four occupants were transported by Clay County Ambulance and Wayne County Ambulance to Clay County Hospital with minor injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and No Valid Driver’s License.
The Toyota was towed from the scene by Barry’s Towing of Fairfield; ISP was assisted at the traffic crash scene by Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne County Ambulance, Clay County Ambulance and Barry’s Towing.
