WHY IS IT WE HAVE TO FIGHT OUR GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES?

That’s the question Jeff Jenkins is asking.

Jenkins is the owner of Maverick Stables in Pittsburg, Illinois, a small community outside of Marion in Williamson County, where a strange little series of events has not only prompted the fight, but has called into question tactics local taxpayer-supported entities, such as water districts (as well as others we simply don’t think about much but to which our tax dollars inevitably go every year), use on those who pay their way.

A rural Williamson County resident is claiming the Village of Pittsburg Water Department is using harassment and fear against four families who are tenants of Jeff Jenkins, owner of Maverick Stables.

However, Pittsburg, the tiny village of 600 northeast of Marion, is stating that there’s a misunderstanding of the circumstances, and that what Jenkins is doing on his 15-acre property is in violation of water ordinances that they’re merely trying to rectify.

Whether this will happen might be a matter for the courts to decide, a point which might prove completely moot, as Jenkins’ property isn’t within village limits, and there may be some question as to whether the referenced ordinances apply to his circumstances.

In the interim, Jenkins has filed a Small Claims suit against the village in Williamson County circuit court, and the village has shot back with not only a response for dismissal, but a counter claim…
