JOHNSTON CITY, Ill.—The Johnston City High School Art Students are holding several fundraising events over the summer to save their visual arts program. Each Friday evening from 3-7 p.m. you will find some of these art students manning a booth at the Johnston City Farmer’s Market on Broadway.
On Saturday, June 14th they will be hosting Art in the Park at the City Park and Scout Cabin on Adams Avenue and a Car Show at the high school on Jefferson Ave. On July 18th from 6-9 p.m. will be the JC Save the Arts Dinner Theater in the high school. The Art in the Park and JC Save the Arts Car Show will have something for every member of the family.
Community Yard Sale & Flea Market – Beginning at 9 a.m. yard sale opens in the parking lot of Washington Middle School. People interested in renting a space should contact Kathy Rushing at 889-0041 or Kathy_lilly@hotmail.com to reserve their space.
JC Save the Arts Car Show – Registration runs from 9:00 a.m. to Noon with awards at 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot behind the high school. All cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome to enter. The entry fee is $15. The first 50 entries will receive a dash plaque and prizes will be awarded to the top 20 entries and a Best of Show. There will also be drawings for door prizes as well as 50/50 drawings and food concessions.
Art in the Park – Gate opens at 10 a.m. with activities running until 8 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for kids ages 4-12, and children under 4 are free. There will be food and drink concessions, games of all kinds for all ages including inflatables donated by Inflatable Fun. There will be art activities, t-shirt sales, a dunktank, and 50/50 raffles running throughout the day. Musical entertainment will be provided by Music in Motion from 12-2, Calico Creek from 2-4, Matt Galik from 4-6, and Roisin Dubh from 6-8. A Hotdog Eating Contest will begin at 2 p.m. and a SilentAuction will run from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. You can purchase raffle tickets for a handmade guitar by Al Peebles and a Henry Golden Boy 22 rifle. JC Save the Arts Dinner Theater – Relax and enjoy a delicious barbeque dinner catered by Country Korner Cookin. “The Dinner Singer” Donnie Falknor will perform songs by greats like Eddy Arnold, John Denver, Elvis Presley, and more. Be sure to take home a sweet treat from the Pie Auction. Tickets to the dinner theater will also be on sale at Art in the Park and JC Save the Arts Car Show or contact Kathy Rushing at kathy_lilly@hotmail.com or 618-889-0041.
