The body of a second occupant of a hot air balloon that caught fire and crashed in rural Virginia has been recovered Saturday as the recovery effort continued for the third victim, authorities said.
Virginia State Police said the second body was found in a location just north of where the first body was found. A police spokeswoman said the genders and identities of the recovered bodies were not being released at this time.
The police said the search for the third body is being conducted in area that is “extremely wooded and rural.” About 100 first responders are part of the search teams, which also includes K-9 units.
Authorities said the pilot of the balloon was doing everything he could to save his life and the lives of his passengers on Friday night in the moments before the balloon exploded.
