CLAY CITY, Ill.—A driver involved in the car-semi accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 50 at Clay City is still hospitalized at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, according to the Illinois State Police report on the accident.
ISP released information today on the incident that has left Jeremy Kohn, 36, of Flora, injured and his red 2001 Pontic Grand Am totaled, following the 3:05 p.m. accident yesterday (Thursday, May 8, 2014).
ISP’s investigation shows that Kohn was westbound on U.S. 50 west of the Clay County Blacktop, and the driver of a 2010 Western Star tractor-trailer rig was Eastbound, when Kohn crossed the center line and struck the rig on the driver’s side.
The driver of the rig, Joseph Logue, 58, of Farina, was not injured.
Kohn’s vehicle ended up in the ditch on the right side of the roadway; Logue’s truck was disabled at the center of the roadway and snarled traffic. A third rig that was in traffic at the time of the collision, an International truck-tractor driven by Carl Bunting, 47, of Albion, received minor damage from debris that flew off the collision between Kohn’s and Logue’s vehicles.
All three drivers, ISP reported were wearing their seatbelts.
Kohn was issued a citation for Improper Lane Usage, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Kohn’s condition was unavailable as of this morning, but relatives have advised Disclosure that he has at the very least suffered a broken arm and broken leg; this is unconfirmed by official sources.
