American innovators being stifled by the Environmental Protection Agency have long had reason to criticize the bureaucrats responsible for implementing draconian regulations. The results of a recent investigation by the Inspector General, however, reveal a trend that should infuriate every American taxpayer.
The report indicates 10 EPA officials took home a combined total of nearly $500,000 in unauthorized bonuses since 2009. While the bonuses were in some instances initially approved as a means to entice the employees to stay with the agency, the IG investigation found the checks kept coming in subsequent years.
One employee approved for a one-time retention bonus continued to receive a total of more than $77,000 in additional unauthorized income over the span of five years.
