GUILTY PLEA: Nothing like being obsolete as soon as the paper gets on the stands…

….at least in Wabash County.

The pissy Ms Whittler, from a couple weeks back

Former Mt. Carmel city treasurer Ericka Whittler had an appearance in court Monday, March 12 (about the time we were getting this issue out on the stands, at least in South Counties) when we got a text that it was all over…she had entered a plea of guilty in her Theft case there in Wabash. She was charged a couple of weeks ago with filching more than four grand from the city’s impound yard fund, this discovered after and audit had been conducted back in early February. She resigned when the funds were discovered missing.

Our source told us Whittler had entered a guilty plea during her appearance, but as crazy as Monday was (and with us down in Hardin for a large part of the journey during deliveries), we didn’t get the post up. Here it is, revised.

This thief got the preferential treatment, for sure, just like most people do if they come in and admit to their transgressions (whether they did it or not…see this month’s issue and Bubba’s column in Prose & Cons). Her punishment amounts to one year of conditional discharge, wherein she’s supposed to pay the money back, and “not have any job where she is involved in financial transactions” during that time frame. Her bond of $1,000 is also being kept, so she’s out the four-plus grand (which was likely already spent) AND the thousand-dollar bond. Which, incidentally, was reportedly posted by the city comptroller….with whom she’s allegedly been having a fling, to the dismay of his WIFE.

So, there ya go. Us honest people, well, we’re in the wrong business. We should be able to steal thousands of dollars and when we’re caught, should just plead guilty to and an offer to pay it back. Seems to work for everyone else, right? So for those of us who are making an HONEST living, providing a good or service that no one forces you to part with your money in order to obtain, like government entities do (taxes), please go ahead and pick up a copy of this month’s issue, where the pissy Ms. Whittler is on page 3, if for no reason other than posterity….and a rundown of OTHER public officials in Wabash who’ve gotten away with crimes with MUCH LESS than what this dingbat did.
