BRENTWOOD, Mo.—The man who was hired to represent a killer in White County has been arrested and charged with DWI in the state where he operates his law business.
Danny K. Coston’s attorney N. Scott Rosenblum, 56, of Ladue, who’s been featured right here at the site in all his self-aggrandizing glory, was involved in a traffic crash in the 1800 block of South McKnight Road in Brentwood early yesterday morning. Driving his 2013 Bentley, he is reported by authorities to have crossed the center line at 12:15 a.m., thus striking an oncoming Toyota Tundra pickup on that road.
The pickup’s driver was not identified, but police say he is a 27-year-old man who was hospitalized for minor injuries. There was no suspicion on the part of the injured man as to intoxication.
However, that’s not the case with Rosenblum.
Suspecting intoxication, police cited and booked Rosenblum on city charges (basically, an ordinance violation) of Driving While Intoxicated and Careless and Imprudent Driving.
Authorities would not publicly state to inquiring media as to whether Rosenblum blew for Blood Alcohol Content or passed/failed field sobriety tests.
Rosenblum, however, said that he was just “tired” after handling a high-profile case in which a local man was acquitted of molesting a child while drunk, and that he had been putting in 15 to 16-hour days on the case, which went to a jury Tuesday and which decision was rendered just hours before the 12:15 a.m. crash.
In all likelihood, Rosenblum probably did NOT blow, as is the recommended course of action in such cases, thus not providing the prosecution with any evidence at all to work with, and out of which the non-blower usually scates without the DUI (in Missouri, DWI) on his record.
We’ve not done any research to see whether or not Missouri has a six-month summary suspension for those who don’t blow; but in Illinois, that’s a favored strategy of lawyers: take the six-month summary suspension, demand a speedy trial, and without evidence, the whole thing is thrown out and license ultimately restored.
Rosenblum was retained by Danny K. Coston’s family, but showed up on a very limited basis for his hearings, instead opting to send another partner at the firm to manage Coston’s case.
Rosenblum has gained a reputation as an attorney as being the one you hire if you’re standing over the still-warm body with the gun smoking in his hand.
Who will represent him in this case in Brentwood remains unknown at this time.
