Saline County — Interstate 55 was partially shut down today when a Harrisburg Fire Truck overturned in an accident.
According to reports made to Disclosure, the Harrisburg Fire Department’s ladder truck was being driven to Washington, IL, this afternoon by the the company which services it when the accident occurred.
Reports indicated that a tire blew on the truck as it was being driven northbound on I-55 to Washington, near the Sangamon Ave. exit. The blown tire causing the diver to lose control, and the truck swerved, crossing the median, and finally hitting the concrete barriers, causing it to overturn.
Reports made to Disclosure indicated that the driver was not injured in the accident.
The overturned Fire Truck caused portions of the interstate to be shut down in the Springfield area, but those areas were reportedly reopened at around 4:00PM this afternoon.
We have been unable to get any comment from the Harrisburg Fire Department, but will be making contact with Harrisburg Fire Chief Bill Summers tomorrow morning for further details, which we will bring to you as they are made available to us.
