Springfield — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources terminated one of their top men on Monday, and the cause is tied to campaign funds he had received from a coal company.
Tony Mayville, who was serving as a top man in the IDNR’s offices of Mines and Minerals, was terminated on Monday after a failed bid for a seat in the Illinois House. That failed bid was made before Mayville received clearance to run from the DNR’s chief, and was funded, at least in part, from campaign funds received from a coal company.
The IDNR has confirmed Mayville’s dismissal, but refuses to elaborate on any of the details. Given recent events in Southern Illinois, one can assume which coal company the campaigns funds came from, but that too is unconfirmed.
Mayville has reportedly held the stand that he has done nothing wrong or illegal.
